School Days

The start of a new school year is a fresh beginning for everyone. You will want to capture these memories in an album of your choice. Here are a few ideas to get you started. These ideas can be adapted for both a traditional and a digital school year album.

• At the beginning of each grade, trace your child’s handprint onto an album page (or onto colored paper) and print the weight and height of your child on that page as well. For digital you can then photograph or scan the print. Be sure to measure the size of the hand so you can exact same measurement in your StoryBook.

• Have your child write his/her name each year. Again scan it for a StoryBook.

• Take a picture of your child on the first day…also take a picture of the school building each year as well.

• Include a page to write things down your child has said, significant things that happened, or what they liked to talk about (fads, jokes) etc. Don’t forget to get a picture of their arm full of Silly Bands! You can also include some information about things in the world: Who was President, prices of cars, food items, clothes fads, popular songs and movies.

• Photograph or scan ARTWORK and projects. This way you can still capture the memory without dealing with all the oversize papers.

• For Kindergarten, have both parents write down memories of that day (even if it seems trivial now), what special things were said, impressions etc.

• Write a little information about the teacher your child had each grade (their name, special traits). If possible, include a picture of the teacher with your child.

• Include pictures of friends and stories about them as well.

• Include information/pictures about all the activities your child participates in (plays, holiday activities, projects, and fairs).

• Include your child’s class photo. Include the names of each child.

• Have a container handy that you can put school papers, pictures, name tags, etc. into until you have time to go through them and put them into the album.

What other ideas do you have that should be included in a school year album? Please add them to the comments section so others can also benefit from your ideas.
